Adidas Big Announcement with Bored Ape Yacht Club
Adidas announced today that it had partnered with Yuga Labs-owned Bored Ape Yacht Club, one of the most prominent collections in the nonfungible token space (NFT). The partnership will include a launch of an NFT comic series drawn by Marvel and DC Comics artist Chris Wahl.
The company is partnering with the pseudonymous GMoney, who is a top NFT collector and thought leader in the space. Not only that, but he’s also the managing partner of Delphi INFINFT, a new crypto-backed investment fund.
The Bored Ape Yacht Club has been going strong for over a year and the team just unveiled it’s newest Adidas collab: Punks Comic x Bored Ape x Adidas. The effort was announced on Instagram with the reveal of a Bored Ape NFT dubbed Indigo Herz, drawn wearing an Adidas tracksuit bearing Bored Ape Yacht Club, Punks Comic and GMoney’s logos. Announced Instagram post also featured the Punks Comic character Courtney, who wore Adidas-branded clothing and shoes.
It’s no secret that Twitter is looking for ways to keep its platform growing. It’s understandable, too – the social media site needs more time to grow before it can be profitable. The new partnership with Bored Ape Yacht Club, Gmoney and Punks Comic is an attempt to bring the diverse nature of the web into a single place.
Adidas is the latest brand to enter the virtual world. The company announced its release of an Augmented Reality (AR) app that will allow customers to purchase Adidas products in a virtual space that’s compatible with both iOS and Android devices. The Confirmed app is an extension of adidas.com where users can buy sneakers, clothes and other items in the comfort of their own home.
Adidas had already made moves in the metaverse through purchase of a plot of land on The Sandbox, an open source gaming platform. Short after Adidas made this announcement, it then revealed it had partnered with Coinbase, one of the largest crypto trading platforms in the world.
