J. Cole and Joyner Lucas debut “Your Heart” single and video
“Your Heart” was a story I had to tell,” explained Lucas. “I’ve been blessed enough to know so many people who have lost someone they loved, and this song is dedicated to them.
“The idea came to me when J. Cole reached out to me and wanted to collaborate on a song,” Lucas continued. “He was working on something of his own at the time, but I pitched him the idea of this song. His response was, ‘When can we get to work?’”
Both artists previously collaborated on “Don’t Get High,” which appeared on the “Everybody Dies” soundtrack.
At first, I thought the song was about Joyner,” Cole tells Billboard. “He’s talking about a relationship that had to end, so I’m like, ‘Oh, I don’t know if I’m down for this. I don’t know if I’m down for this.’ Then, when I actually heard the song, I was like, ‘Oh, okay, that makes sense. That’s what it’s about.’”
