Trina is one name that you can add to the list of former rappers who entered the business world and became a success.
This year, the female rapper celebrates the 20th anniversary of her album release “Da Baddest Bitch” the rapper is still going strong after all these years.
Trina was one of the first female rappers in the game that toured, wrote, and recorded her songs. She did all of that on her next album, as she recalled in an interview with Forbes. “I was just all over the place at the same time.”
Her second album, Diamond Princess, featured the likes of Missy Elliot, Kanye West, and at the time a little known rapper named Rick Ross. The second album was a success and was more successful than her first album.
Almost 15 years to the day that she released her debut album, Trina signed with Penalty Entertainment in 2015 to create a record label, Rockstarr Music Group. She has had her shares of ups and downs with the record label, including having her new album, her first one in nine years, pulled from the shelves because of what she calls a “bad business” decision with a partner of hers, yet she still pressed on.
She re-released the album “The One” back in April and even added a few new tracks to it. During the years she wasn’t making music, she was dealing with the death of her mother too.
Trina also continues with her other business projects such as her the “Trick and Trina Morning Show” on Miami’s 99 Jamz, her clothing line “Fashion Girl Boutique,” and being part of the cast of “Love and Hip-Hop Miami.”
“Being yourself, she says, doesn’t mean that you can’t and won’t change who you are as an artist. “You can’t say ‘Don’t change,’ because every year I’ve learned something different. Every time I traveled out of the country or did different things or did a new record with an artist I loved, all of that is growth. All of that is different experiences.”
And Trina has proven that after all these years, she is still one of the baddest B’s in the game.
