The world woke up Saturday morning to hear of two devastating deaths in the music world: Little Richard and Andre Harrell.
Andre Harrell’s Passing
Andre Harrell, the founder of Uptown Records, died at the age of 59. Harrell was responsible for such musical acts as Mary J Blige, Diddy, Biggie Smalls, and Heavy D, just to name a few.
Russell Simmons, who is the founder of Def Jam Records, wrote a loving tribute about Harrell.
Little Richard’s Passing
Then we were hit later with the news of the passing of Rock and Roll great Little Richard, who died at the age of 87.
Richard was born in Macon, Georgia, and was an inventor for a lot of musicians whom we celebrate today, such as Prince, the Rolling Stones, and the Beatles. His songs such as “Good Golly Miss Molly,” “Tutti Frutti,” and “Girl Can’t Help It” are all rock classics.
Although he dropped out of rock and roll briefly to become a minister, he is still considered by many as one of the greatest rock and roll artists of all-time and demanded his respect for his part in creating rock music.
Both will be sorely missed, but their legend and music will live on.
